Fall 2016 Prosthetic Hand: Capacitive Touch Panel Design
Design and Manufacturing Engineer – Wilson Mach
The capacitive touch was designed to control the hand using the Xbee as the wireless communication. My division manager helped me create the arxterra logos, which would be used for capacitive touch purposes, wiring and board cutting. My project manager assisted with aesthetic lettering and installing the hinges.
The design of the box to enclose the circuit board of the Xbee was designed by the electronic and control engineer, Younis Al-Kharusi. One challenge of this board was that the logo touch pieces can only get signal from a bare foot or anything conductive.
The “O” command stands for for open hand to initial position, the “W” turns the wrist clockwise, the “C” turns the wrist counterclockwise, the “B” stand for burger command (three finger pinch), the “F” stand for fry command (two finger pinch), and the “D” stand for drink command (whole hand grip). A picture of the capacitive touch panel is above.
